Rory Gibson - Writing for Journalism: Columns and Blogs

Rory is one of Australia’s foremost writers and editors. Having stumbled into journalism, aided by his mother, at the age of 17 when a cadetship at the Brisbane Telegraph found him, Rory matured into a highly experienced News Ltd editor, chief-sub-editor and reporter. A master story teller who can bring any subject to life to earn the interest and respect of his audience, Rory enjoys a strong public profile with a weekly column in Queensland’s Sunday Mail – You've Got Male - as well as a weekly column about beer in the Courier Mail. He is an experienced writing trainer, having tutored in journalism at QUT and James Cook University. His career highlights include being chief sub-editor of The Australian, editor-in-Chief of the Fiji Times group and editor of the Townsville Bulletin.

Since his wife passed from breast cancer in 2010, Rory's columns have chronicled his adventures as a single dad of three school-age boys now launched upon the world, who have yet to discover that he fled a considerable time ago, to Yamba, NSW.

Rory Gibson will be presenting sessions on writing for journalism – blogging, writing columns and surviving in the commercial world of writing for the masses.
