Michael Bauer - Young Adult Fiction 

Michael's first novel The Running Man was published in 2004. It won the 2005 Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year for Older Readers and was short-listed for many other awards both here and in Germany and Italy. His other works include the very funny Don’t Call Me Ishmael! (CBCA Shortlist 2007, Children’s Peace Prize winner 2007, SA Festival winner 2008) and its sequels Ishmael and the Return of the Dugongs and Ishmael and the Hoops of Steel (CBCA shortlist 2012), Just a Dog (CBCA Honour Book 2011, Qld Premier’s Award winner 2011) Dinosaur Knights and the popular Eric Vale and Derek ‘Danger’ Dale series for younger readers both of which are fully illustrated by his film-maker son Joe Bauer ( Joe’s trailers for both series can be viewed on YouTube.

Michael’s most recent publications are the light-hearted teenage novel The Pain, My Mother, Sir Tiffy, Cyber Boy and Me (WAYRBA shortlist 2017) and his first picture book, an hilarious story in rhyme with illustrations by Chrissie Krebs called Rodney Loses It! 

These days Michael is a full-time writer who is in high demand for talks at schools and festivals around Australia. He has presented at schools in Jakarta, Abu Dhabi and Guangzhou, China and to festivals in Munich and Edinburgh. His books, which are popular as school texts here in Australia, are now sold in over 40 countries and currently translated into 12 languages.
